Port of Seatte Rebrand picks up a Silver Award at The Seattle Show.
I was born in San Francisco, California where I lived for three years. My family relocated to Seattle, Washington in the summer of 1993 where I’ve been ever since. I am of Chinese heritage, have roots in Vietnam, and posses a decent ability to speak Cantonese.
I really never thought of myself as particularly artistic, creative, or visually sensitive growing up. I was fascinated by cars and building things and always wanted to be an engineer. After graduating with high school honors from Edmonds–Woodway’s International Baccalaureate Program, I began studying Visual Communication Design at the University of Washington after realizing that going into engineering would have been the worst mistake of my life.
I’m currently a senior in the program with an expected BFA degree by June of 2009. Parallel to my studies, I’ve been involved in a few projects in the greater Seattle area, mainly with startup companies in the technology industry. Although I’ve done work in interaction and experience design, branding and identity has become one of my primary focusses and pursuits in the field of design.
I believe that design can change the world, that its powerful enough to make people think differently, and that brands can unite everyone in ways that go far beyond consumers and products. Branding allows for a belief or a cause to be articulated and framed visually, promoting powerfully unique and meaningful representations that become part of our society.
